CATARINA VEIGA LUTHIER     >     INSTRUMENTS

INSTRUMENTS

Following the Italian tradition, Catarina Veiga violins combine a powerful, sweet and deep sound with the musician’s comfort.

Studying at Bele in Bilbao meant learning the art of lutherie through the traditional Cremonese method used by the great Italian masters, and this is the base for the instruments built by Catarina Veiga. However, the search for new solutions and materials to improve their acoustic capabilities is something that is always present.

For her violins, old German an Italian woods are used, from the regions of Bavaria and South Tyrol. On the fingerboard, upper and lower nut, she uses Sonowood, a substitute material for ebony (an endangered wood species) and with similar properties in terms of density and acoustics. The varnish used is the result of a mixture of resins and natural essential oils, developed in the studio with not only a perspective on aesthetic beauty of the instrument, but also its acoustics qualities.

Each instrument is exclusively made to order, in a completely manual process and respecting the musician’s preferences.
