INSTRUMENTOS
Following the Italian tradition, Catarina Veiga violins combine a powerful, sweet, and deep sound with musician comfort.
Studying at BELE in Bilbao meant learning the art of lutherie through the traditional Cremonese method, used by the great Italian masters. This is the foundation used by Catarina Veiga for the construction of her instruments. However, the search for new solutions and materials that allow for the improvement of their acoustic capabilities is always present.
For her violins, old German and Italian woods are used, from the regions of Bavaria and South Tyrol. Sonowood, a substitute material for ebony (a wood species in danger of extinction) and with similar properties in terms of hardness and behavior, is used for the fingerboard, nut, and saddle. The varnish used is a mixture of natural resins and essential oils, developed in the workshop with a view not only to the instrument’s aesthetic beauty but also its acoustic qualities.
Each instrument is built to order, in a completely manual process and according to the musician’s preferences.
Seguindo a tradição Italiana, os violinos Catarina Veiga aliam um som poderoso, doce e profundo ao conforto do músico.
Estudar na BELE, em Bilbau, significou a aprendizagem da arte da lutherie através do método tradicional Cremonense, utilizado pelos grandes mestres italianos. É esta a base utilizada por Catarina Veiga para a construção dos seus instrumentos. No entanto, a procura de novas soluções e materiais que permitam melhorar as capacidades acústicas dos mesmos é algo que está sempre presente.
Para os seus violinos, são utilizadas madeiras antigas Alemãs e Italianas, das regiões da Baviera e do Tirol do sul. Para o ponto, pestana e noz é utilizada Sonowood, material substituto do ébano (espécie de madeira em vias de extinção) e com semelhantes propriedades em termos de dureza e comportamento.
O verniz utilizado resulta da mistura de resinas e óleos essenciais naturais, desenvolvida no atelier tendo em vista não apenas a beleza estética do instrumento, mas também as suas qualidades acústicas
